INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Looking for something to do this weekend? Here’s a couple of ideas!

2018 Virginia Avenue Music Fest

The largest music festival in the state of Indiana is happening this week, and best of all… IT’S FREE! Check out over 130 different bands and artists at over 10 different locations in and around the Fountain Square neighborhood. A full schedule of performances, which begin Wednesday and run through Sunday, can be found HERE. Art, beer/wine and food vendors will also be scattered throughout the event. All ages are welcome, so make some plans to travel to Virginia Ave. this week!

Month of May Festivities

The IndyCar Grand Prix is this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! Practice and qualifying are Friday with the 85 lap main event set to begin by 3:50 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are as little as $30 if you buy them ahead of race day. (Full Schedule)

It’s also 500 Festival Kids’ Day which takes place around Monument Circle this Saturday. Indiana’s largest FREE outdoor festival for children starts at 12 p.m. and runs through 4 p.m. A carnival-like atmosphere awaits with drumming workshops, Bollywood-style dancing, opportunities to paint your very own masterpieces, mini car races, the 500 Festival’s obstacle course, sash making with the 500 Festival Princesses, entertainment and so much more!

The Rookie Run also takes place Saturday which requires pre-registration and will cost $8 per child. All participants will receive a goodie bag, a bib with the #1 and a finisher’s medal.

Mother’s Day Events & Specials

If you’re looking for something a little different from the typical Mother’s Day brunch or flowers, here are a few more ideas you can surprise Mom with this year…

The Flower Boys (Indy City Market) are hosting a flower arranging workshop this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. for both you and your Mom. The class will teach you how to prep, arrange, and maintain your new creation of cut flowers. Tickets cost $40.04/ea.

The Indianapolis Zoo is hosting Mothers all weekend. Mothers will get a special “Proud Mom” sticker at the gate and then the whole family can enjoy a scavenger hunt through the zoo.

You can also celebrate Mother’s Day at the ballpark this Sunday as the Indians host the Columbus Clippers. Kids 14 and under get a free hot dog, chips and a bottle of water and 20 percent of the proceeds from women’s apparel, headwear and the Tribe’s Mother’s Day on-field cap at the gift shop will go to Susan G. Komen.

Not your typical brunch, the Indiana Repertory Theatre is having both brunch and a show this Sunday beginning at noon. A $75 ticket will get you brunch by MBP Distinctive Catering, access to an on-site photographer and one ticket to the uproarious backstage comedy, and season-closer Noises Off.

Visit Indiana Week

The second week of May has been Visit Indiana Week, where travelers will be able to get discounts and/or free admission at more than 200 attractions and properties. So far, we’ve had  State Parks Sunday, Museum Monday, Tastings Tuesday, Wild Wednesday and Throwback Thursday. This Friday is Foodie Friday with 28 different restaurants offering specials and discounts, several of which are in or within close proximity to the Circle City! While not a part of the official promotion, Food Truck Friday festivities ramp back up this week or the second Friday this season on Georgia Street. Numerous food trucks will be parked between Capital and Illinois between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for lunch.

Saturday is Sports and Outdoor Saturday, featuring 22 discounts on sporting events, history or activities on May 12. From hiking to spelunking to paddling, from baseball to bowling to hoops, Sports and Outdoor Saturday has something for everyone.

Comedians Darren Knights & Anthony Jeselnik

The Old National Centre has two big comedy acts this Mother’s Day weekend. Friday night at 8 p.m., Darren Knight (aka Southern Momma from Munford, Alabama) will perform. He’s the fastest rising comedian in American history, surpassing over a half a billion hits across various social media platforms. Tickets start at $27.50.

Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., Anthony Jeselnik will bring his Funny Games show to the Egyptian Room. He’s most famous for The Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump and Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen in addition to The Jeselnik Offensive, which he starred in and created. Tickets are going for $37.50.

Broad Ripple Art Walk

The Spring edition of the Broad Ripple Art Walk is this Friday between 5 and 9 p.m. Galleries, boutiques and shops throughout the village participate with their own unique art exhibits. Here is a list of participating destinations.

33rd Annual Brick Street Market (Zionsville)

If you’re looking for a short road trip this Mother’s Day weekend, head up to Boone County for the 33rd Annual Brick Street Market, a conglomeration of more than 100 vendors offering a large variety of jewelry, clothing, artwork, home and garden décor, doll clothes, accessories, food and so much more. This public event is FREE and family friendly. Free parking and shuttle service is available at Zionsville Community H.S. and runs between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Hilbert Circle Theatre Performances

The Hilbert Circle Theatre is hosting several shows this weekend, so your Mom is bound to enjoy at least one of them! The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will be performing the legendary score from the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film both Friday and Sunday as the film is projected simultaneously on the big screen. The Friday show begins at 7:30 p.m. with tickets starting at $30 and the 3 p.m. Sunday show tickets also starting at $30.  

A trio of performances will take place Saturday evening beginning at 8 p.m. ISO’s Artists-in-Residence Time for Three, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra the debut of Citizen Cope will all share the same stage with tickets priced as low as $22.
