Chris Widlic joined the WISH-TV sports staff in December of
2003. Originally from Arlington Heights, Illinois, Chris
graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in
Broadcast Journalism.
He began his broadcasting career at WVVA-TV in Bluefield,
West Virginia where he worked as a photographer. Chris anchored the
weekend sports before being named sports director for that station.
Chris then became the sports director for WCIA-TV, the CBS
affiliate in Champaign before heading east to Indianapolis.
He is a three-time winner of the best downstate sportscast from AP
and UPI and he has also won "Illinois Silverdome" awards for his
play-by-play of University of Illinois football and basketball
games.
He has covered the 1994 Winter Olympics; Cubs, Cards and
White Sox playoffs; the Bears post-season and the US Open golf
championship in Chicago. His career brought him to Indianapolis
many times even before he came to the Circle City, to cover the
month of May, the Brickyard and the PGA Championship at Crooked
Stick. He has also covered all the major personalities in the Big
10 for the past decade-and-a-half. Some of his favorites to
cover are the Colts, March Madness and racing.
Chris has a genuine enthusiasm for all sports. Those that
score the highest marks with him include football, tennis, golf,
and skiing.
