David Barras joined WISH-TV in July of 1980 as a weekend assignment editor and reporter. His duties gradually evolved to those of the business/economics reporter. Barras anchored WISH-TV's Daybreak for more than two decades. He currently anchors 24-Hour News 8 at 5:00 and serves as a general assignment reporter.
Barras was born and raised in the Chicago area and attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-TV-Film. Upon graduation he worked as a manufacturer representative for Reliance Trading Corporation, and then as a car salesmen in Highland Park, Illinois.
He returned to school, attending Ball State University, to earn a Masters degree in Radio-TV-Film. He landed his first television job at WTVW-TV in Evansville, Indiana where he was the weekend anchor and producer. A year later he moved to Indianapolis and WISH-TV.
He has earned many awards for his work at WISH-TV including Associated Press' best general news reporting.
Barras is married and has three children.
