Deanna Dewberry joined WISH-TV in January 2005. She co-anchors "News 8 at Noon" and "News 8 at 5 pm."
A native Texan, Deanna joined WISH from Texas Cable News, TXCN, in Dallas where she had been a news anchor since 1998.
While working for TXCN, she also worked for WFAA in Dallas as an anchor and reporter. Prior to her work in Dallas, she worked for KTHV, in Little Rock, Arkansas as well as KLBK and KCBD in Lubbock, Texas. She earned her degree in journalism in 1992 from the University of Texas in Austin.
An Emmy award winning journalist, Deanna has been honored by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, Associated Press, National Association of Black Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists, Texas Speech Communication Association, and the American Cancer Society. She received a regional Emmy for writing in 2010. She was honored by SPJ with a first place award in 2009 and 2006 for her coverage of minority issues. She’s the recipient of the 2008 IBE Trailblazer Award. In 2005 she received the Today's Woman Leadership Award given by Radio One, and the 2004-2005 "Communicator of the Year" award given by the Texas Speech Communication Association. She is the past recipient of the NAACP's "Excellence in Journalism" award, as well as the Associated Press first place award for coverage of daily news.
Deanna is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the Indianapolis Association of Black Journalists (IABJ), and the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). Deanna serves on the board the Wellness Community of Central Indiana and is actively involved in cancer patient advocacy issues. She also serves as a member of Jack and Jill of America, Indianapolis chapter, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Deanna and her husband have a little boy who is their joy. They also have two furry family members - a cat and a collie.
