Derek Daly has been WISH-TV's expert racing analyst since
1990. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Derek competed as a
professional driver for 17 years before becoming a television
motorsports personality. In 1985, Derek impressed ESPN executives
early on with his on-air presence, delivery and overall knowledge
of racing.
In 1993, Derek received the Joules Goux Award from Moet & Chandon champagne for his outstanding contributions to motorsports television. A poll featured in IndyCar Racing magazine, voted Derek the most popular motorsports television announcer." In December 2000, he received the prestigious Hall of Fame Award from MotorSport Ireland for his leadership of Irish motorsport.
Derek is renowned in motorsports television because he stays close to current activities in racing. He has continuous accessibility to the teams and performs Track Testing in some of the worlds finest, fastest, and most sophisticated racing cars. In 1996, the Derek Daly Track Test became a television show when ESPN aired a one-hour special featuring Derek driving a NASCAR Winston Cup car, an IndyCar, and a Ferrari World Sports Car.
Derek was one of the primary fundraisers for the Indianapolis chapter of the Irish Children’s Fund, which focuses on promoting harmony and friendship in the community without political or religious borders. He currently resides in Noblesville with his three children, and his wife, Rhonda while fulfilling his favorite pastime - being with his family.
