Gene Rodriguez is weekend anchor for 24-Hour News 8’s newscasts at 6:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Gene is also the weekday Crime Beat reporter.

She joined the WISH-TV and WIIH (former Univision affiliate) staffs as a bi-lingual general assignment reporter in April 2003. In October of 2003, Gene was promoted to Daybreak field anchor, providing early morning reports live from the community. In February 2006, Gene moved to the day side City County beat, covering government, business, economics and cultural institutions. Just a few months later she became the station’s Crime Beat reporter. In March of 2007, Gene was promoted to weekend evening anchor.

Gene began her broadcast news career in 1996 at WRBL-TV, the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Georgia. Hired as the weekend Associate Producer, she quickly became a General Assignment Reporter at the station. While there she participated in the Georgia AP Broadcasting awards for 1997 Best Newscast and Pacemaker Award.

In 1998, Gene moved to Roswell, New Mexico as the Southeast Bureau Reporter for KOAT-TV. Less than two years later, Gene was promoted to anchor/reporter at the main newsroom in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Gene earned a BA Degree in Communications from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. She has been active Big Sister with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for more than 8 years and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana. She has also served on several other non-profit boards including Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis and Casa Angelica Auxiliary in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
