Phil Sanchez comes to WISH-TV after several years of reporting in the Northeast. He became part of the WISH-TV 24-Hour News 8 team in August 2007.
Growing up in Queens, NY, he witnessed first-hand the terror attacks on 9/11. It was that tumultuous event which inspired him to pursue a career in broadcasting; he was glued to the TV watching coverage of the tragedy.
He graduated from Adelphi University on Long Island with a degree in Sociology. He stayed on Long Island, beginning his career as a student reporter with LI News Tonight. A year later, Phil made his way to upstate New York covering Orange and Rockland Counties. From there he moved down the shore, where he worked for News12 NJ, a 24 hour news cable operation in the New York City market that provided him with yet another opportunity to grow as a reporter.
In October 2008, Phil was promoted to Daybreak field anchor, providing early morning reports live from the community. In 2009 he won a Regional Emmy and the Associated Press award for Best Spot News Coverage.
Phil is a former college baseball player and personal trainer. In his spare time he likes to run, lift weights, read and watch as much baseball as possible.
