Four-time Emmy-winning Chief Meteorologist Steve Bray is responsible for reporting the weather on WISH-TV's 5:00 p.m. newscasts and managing WISH-TV's Forecast 8 Team. Steve is also director of WISH-TV's Local Weather Station and WISH-TV's Science and Technology Reporter. Steve joined the WISH-TV team in January of 1995 as weekend weather anchor and director of LWS.
Over the years Steve has distinguished himself in not only his daily forecasts and presentations, but in his coverage of big weather events. From the tornadoes outbreaks in June of 1998, September 2002, May 2004, to historic hurricane landfalls like Rita and Katrina, Steve has spent hours of exhaustive coverage on weather events making news.
For his outstanding efforts in the field of broadcasting, Steve has received the AMS Seal of Approval, three Emmys for Weather Broadcasting and one for reporting and producing on the documentary "Fireworks of Glass". He has also received a first place award from the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists for his reporting on the structural storm damage to a Downtown Indianapolis Building.
Prior to coming to WISH-TV, Steve received numerous awards while working at WALA-TV in Mobile, Alabama, KPLC-TV in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He began his career at WAND-TV in Decatur Illinois after graduating from Northern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology in December of 1985.
Demonstrating his commitment to science education for local school children, Steve regularly does his "Science Rocks" presentation to classes studying weather. Using experiments like the "Egg in a Bottle" and "Cloud in a Jar" Steve's popular presentation shows young people how the science of weather is both interesting and entertaining!
When not at WISH-TV Steve enjoys playing golf, softball, basketball and coaching youth sports. Steve and his wife Paula have two children, Samantha and Jordan, and family dogs named Payton and Wrigley.
