INDIANAPOLIS (Press Release) - School on Wheels seeks to recruit, train and place 50 new volunteers for the beginning of the spring school semester (begins Jan. 9th) to provide tutoring to children living at shelters and schools in Indianapolis. With your help, we can fill the remaining spots in no time.

Becoming a volunteer tutor provides a wonderful opportunity to enhance the educational opportunities of children impacted by homelessness. By demonstrating consistency and encouragement, you will give a child the belief that his/her education is not only important but also possible despite his/her circumstances.

To become a School on Wheels tutor, you must be at least 11 years of age. Ages 11-13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Tutors are asked to commit to one hour each week for a 17 week semester. We will work with your schedule to ensure that you will have the opportunity to tutor at the same shelter weekly. Interested tutors must complete a volunteer application, participate in a short phone interview, attend a training/orientation session and pass a criminal background check. This will allow you to learn more about the tutoring services you will be providing and how to make the most impact as a volunteer. To download and submit an application, visit www.indyschoolonwheels.org/tutor , or contact Laura at laura@indysow.org or via phone at (317) 202-9100.
