INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One of the newest fitness studios in Central Indiana features two personal trainers, no treadmills and tractor tires clients learn to flip.
Basic Training is owned by Charlie Cripe and Dan Kidd.
Their philosophy is straight forward: use your own body weight to increase your strength. That's what Cripe teaches his clients when they learn to flip 648 pound tires.
"You're going to use your whole body," says Cripe. So as I get down to flip the tire I'm going to use my legs. I'm going to use my arms, to bring it up and my stomach to support myself."
Dan Kidd is a Ball State graduate with a degree in exercise science.
"Why spend a lot of money on something you don't need, if you can do it yourself," says Kidd.
The two personal trainers work with people of all ages at their studio. They can design workouts, diets, even enter you in an adventure race, if that will motivate you. And they are all about motivation.
"When you give up, I'm going to give you that push," says Kidd.
Their studio on North East Street features rings, kettle bells, and a large open studio for yoga and boot camp classes. They charge by the class, with a break for those who sign up for more than one session.
Clients are also featured on a large blackboard in the studio with health tips, regimens and progress for everybody to see.
As for diets, both advocate non-processed foods. Cripe uses juicing as a way to get his fruits and vegetables into this daily diet.
