Ind. political ads suspended on 9/11

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana's candidates for U.S. Senate and governor are pausing their campaign air wars in honor of the victims of Sept. 11 attacks.

Gubernatorial candidates Mike Pence and John Gregg suspended ads Tuesday. Democratic Senate candidate Joe Donnelly also suspended his latest ad. Republican Richard Mourdock suspended one ad criticizing Donnelly but is keeping another with Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman on-air.

The campaigns said the Sept. 11 anniversary should rise above politics.

Gregg says "it would not be right to air ads on such a somber day." Pence and Donnelly both attended a morning Capitol Hill ceremony remembering the victims.

The decisions bring a brief respite in the final weeks of the campaigns as they've increased their television spending as the Nov. 6 election approaches.
