Indianapolis woman attends Grammy Awards, reacts to Whitney Houston tribute

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One Indiana woman got to be a part of music's biggest night. Jen Beaver from Indianapolis works for a promotion's company in Los Angeles. She was at the show Sunday night and saw how Whitney Houston's life was not only remembered, but celebrated.

The Grammy Awards are the high point in the music industry and Whitney Houston usually played a major role in the show, winning six Grammys herself. In fact, as of 2010 Houston won more than 400 awards. Which is why it should come as no surprise Houston's image was seen throughout the show.

Jen Beaver told 24-Hour News 8 the mood of the show was not somber, but a celebration of all that Whitney Houston accomplished and how she touched all of their lives.

“They said a prayer for her and everybody that’s been coming up have been incorporating her in their songs. It's been the focus of the night. I think they're doing the right thing; they're waiting until tomorrow to release any information so nobody knows what the cause of death was yet. They're really not focusing on that. They're just celebrating her life right now,” explains Jen Beaver.

Beaver said while a tribute to Whitney Houston was a major part of the awards show, it was also about current musicians and their accomplishments and that wasn't lost.

She also pointed out a lot of the dresses worn Sunday night seemed to be a tribute to the star's style. A lot of the fashions resembled trends from the late 80s and 90s.
