Vitamin C is a vital player in sustaining smooth silky skin, but not from processed, sugary orange juice drinks. An American Journal of Clinical Nutrition survey asked people to quantify how often they eat various foods—researchers linked consuming plenty of vitamin C-rich foods with youthful skin. “Our findings suggest that a higher intake of vitamin C from foods such as oranges, tomatoes and strawberries, is associated with a lower risk of having wrinkled skin and age-related skin dryness in [middle-aged] women,” says Maeve Cosgrove, Ph.D., who led the research.
We’ve been trained to believe vitamin C only comes from orange juice. Fruits that are good sources include kiwi, cantaloupe, grapefruit, oranges, raspberries, limes & lemons, papaya and strawberries. Rich vegetable sources include dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and red peppers .Generally speaking, most fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of vitamin C. One kiwi for example, contains 70 mg of vitamin C, so with this recipe, you can have your cocktail and vitamins, too.
