INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Many drivers are expected to hit the roadways this Memorial Day weekend. AAA expects a 1.2 percent increase in travelers this weekend compared to last year.

Among surveyed drivers, 53 percent say that gas prices are not affecting their vacation. The other 47 percent of drivers say that they will have to cut back on entertainment and go for cheaper hotels.

Eagle Creek Park

If you’re looking for a cheaper staycation, Eagle Creek Park might be the spot. Ten minutes away from downtown, the park offers a getaway that is very affordable.

For $5 per car, or $6 for cars from outside of Marion County, families can come and enjoy the outdoors with boat and kayak rentals, free education on animals and creatures in the park, along with 20 miles of trails for hiking and bike riding.

They also have a challenge course of zip lines, ropes and swings .

Police on high alert

With more people hitting the roadways this weekend, know the heat is on. Local and state law enforcement agencies will out in full force. They will be looking for speeders, aggressive driving, seatbelt violations, child restraint violations and of course drunk and impaired drivers. If you do plan to drink, make sure you find a designated driver.
