CENTRAL INDIANA (WISH) - It's trick or treat time in central Indiana, but with H1N1 spreading experts are warning parents that they need to keep their children's hands out of the candy bowl.

There were steady lines at an H1N1 Clinic in Shelbyville Saturday. The health department received 1,000. Parents showed up anxious to protect their kids with a shot.

But on Halloween parents need to think beyond the H1N1 shot. Experts say the virus can live on candy wrappers from two to eight hours.

Many parents, like Kathy Blocher were surprised, "I had no idea that it could stay on candy wrappers for two to eight hours..so I don't honesty know how I'm going to handle that."

Julia Holbrook's two children got their shots. Even though her son is just two, she has limited his trick or treating.

"We're just going to peoples houses that we know on the block. He's pretty young, so he's not ready to go full on trick or treating. We'll just go to our neighbors houses," Holbrook said

While Julia had a plan many parents had not considered candy bowl as a possible danger.

"They have trick or treated every year and this year is different so gloves are an option," Blocher said.

Other parents suggested pre-bagged candy as another option. No one wants H1N1 to spoil this Halloween.
