Gyms emphasize cleanliness

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis gyms are keeping close tabs on the spread of the H1N1 -- swine flu -- virus.

Gym members said the swine flu outbreak has caused them to pay close attention to cleanliness and making sure they wipe down the equipment after they workout.

Abra Katterhery, Cardinal Fitness member, said, "You kind of think about it more. Like, who touched this door knob? Who touched this piece of equipment?"

In addition to the members cleaning off the machines after every use, gym employees are also required to wipe down the equipment several times a day.

"We carry germs. People get sick," said Thomas Cook, Cardinal Fitness Manager. "We do whatever it takes to prevent as much as we can so people don't leave here sick."

The gym also offers hand sanitizer and is asking members to stay home if they don't feel well.
