NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Noblesville Schools confirms that a Forest Hill Elementary School student has tested positive for type “A” influenza.

Officials said the parent of the student called school officials just after noon Tuesday to inform them that their child saw a doctor this weekend. According to school officials, the child's doctor confirmed the child has type "A" influenza.

Noblesville Schools said the child was not at school Monday or Tuesday and they are taking steps to protect other students.

"We as a school district take our necessary precautions to get the school disinfected and cleaned thoroughly so we brought in extra custodians to make sure that happens; we informed the parents that are in that class and we also are informing the parents of the entire district," Mark Booth, Director of Student Services at Noblesville Schools said.

The school district emailed a letter to parents of Forest Hill students informing them that the child has not been diagnosed with H1N1.

In a letter to parents Tuesday evening, Noblesville Schools said, "Our school nurse is monitoring symptoms of ill students and will quickly notify parents and send sick children home when warranted."

The letter also tells parents, "A child sent home with symptoms of influenza cannot return to school until a physician provides written confirmation of a medical diagnosis and a release to return to school."

Noblesville Schools is working closely with the Hamilton County Health Department to manage any outbreaks of H1N1 and to take the necessary precautions to prevent spreading of the illness, school administrators said.
