And after that diagnosis, women have to make a dizzying number of difficult decisions regarding treatment. Surgical options are among the most difficult.
In the continuing series we're calling Deanna's Discovery, 24-hour News 8 anchor Deanna Dewberry allows our cameras into the operating room as she undergoes a double mastectomy. Click to play the video above to see what she experienced.

Deanna chose a double mastectomy because she has an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer called Triple Negative Breast Cancer. But each woman must seek her doctor's advice and make her own decision regarding surgery and reconstruction.
A free symposium can help women with that decision, and many others she'll face during breast cancer treatment. It is set for Saturday at the Cancer Support Community , 5150 W. 71st St.. Topics include emerging treatment trends and breast reconstruction. The symposium is free to people facing cancer and their loved ones. To register, call 317-257-1505, or send an email to the group. For more information on the symposium or the group, go to their website .
