INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A nine-year-old girl has been in the hospital for several days for flu-like symptoms. Doctors believe she has likely contracted H1N1.

Caitlyn Bowser is a fourth-grader at South Grove Intermediate School. Doctors admitted her to St. Francis Hospital on Monday. Her parents said she started showing symptoms of the flu late last week.

Doctors said Caitlyn is being treated for pneumonia and is on three antibiotics. Doctors said she is in good but guarded condition. Caitlyn's white blood cell count is what is worrying her nurse now, it keeps dropping. She's taking her medicines intravenously.

Before 24-Hour News 8 could visit with Caitlyn, photographer DeAndre Taylor and reporter Debby Knox had to put on a gown, mask and use a hand sanitizer.

During the interview, Caitlyn was sitting up in her bed, playing cards. Her mother, Tamara, said she's improved since Monday, when her fever spiked at 104 degrees and she became delusional.

Tamara described Caitlyn's symptoms.

"Headache, dizzy, upset stomach, body aches, she really complained about her hips. She started coughing on Saturday, treated it with OTC meds, it was fine. Sunday was a little worse. Monday I called the doctor. I need her seen and they listened to her lungs and said she had developed pneumonia," said Tamara.

More blood work is scheduled for Thursday. When she is released to go home, it might be a few more days before she's back to school.

Caitlyn's parents said her brother came down with the flu a day before she did. He has since recovered.
