FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Local health officials say Fort Wayne hospitals can ease restrictions on child visitors as the area's flu cases are declining.

Parkview Health officials said the restrictions at its hospitals would be lifted after Allen County Health Commissioner Deborah McMahan made the announcement Monday.

Children are more susceptible to the H1N1 flu and they had been banned from many hospitals and nursing homes across the country in recent weeks.

In Indianapolis, the Marion County Health Department said school absenteeism and emergency room visits due to flu-like symptoms have eased but visitation rules have been left up to hospitals.

Clarian Health Partners spokeswoman Margie Smith-Simmons said the hospital network will continue asking that those younger than 18 not visit patients.
