Man fatally stabs wife, dies in crash

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WISH) - Because of icy roads early Sunday morning a man didn't get far after police say he stabbed his wife to death... in front of their children.

The man slammed into a tree... just four blocks from the crime scene in the 4700 block of Rural Street.

Police tell us that the kids tried to save their mother.

"Two of the children were with the mom with the vicious attack occurred," said IMPD Officer Kendale Adams

Killed his wife....police say.... minutes before his life ended.

They say two children watched their dad Kevin Field stab their mom Melissa over and over.

"The kids, they don't deserve this and she didn't deserve this either," a neighbor told us, who wanted to remain anonymous.

While waiting for paramedics, the two kids tried to give mom CPR, but her wounds were too severe.
Neighbors say she was a stay at home mother of five.

"She took care of everything. She was the anchor of this family," another neighbor told us.

Folks in this quiet neighborhood on South Rural Street are stunned to hear the news. Investigators tell us an argument led to the attack.

"He kind of indicated that there was some trouble," said another neighbor.

She met us at her front door with tears and tissue in had. She didn't want to be identified, but says Kevin was not just the man who lived next door, but also her childhood friend. We asked her if Kevin was violent, because he stabbed Melissa multiple times.

She responded, "I don't know that side of him. I've never known that."

We're told the children have been placed in the care of family members.
