The 36 th Annual Greater Indianapolis Garage Sale and Marketplace presented by Marsh is coming to the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1200 E. 38 th St Indianapolis.  The event will be held in the Blue Ribbon and Champions Pavilions from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday, January 14, 2010 and 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sunday, January 15, 2010.  More than 600 booths will be filled with every item imaginable at can’t-pass-up prices.

The tough economic times facing Americans have made garage sales more popular than ever.  Gregg Kettles, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles who studies consumers and outdoor commerce was quoted in the New York Times saying that, “This is the perfect storm for garage sales.  We’re coming off a 20-year boom in which consumers filled ever-bigger houses.  Now people need cash because of the bust.”  Naturally, when more sellers dig deeper for items to sell, the bargains and treasures available to buyers are better than ever.

Americans today are enthralled with the bargain busting culture.  Cable TV programs like Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, and Pawn Queens feature a culture of Americans who have become career bargain shoppers and appraisers and live by the motto of “He who finds the best deal wins.” The popularity of social websites like Groupon and LivingSocial show that the American consumer has now  been trained to not buy at retail prices.  Consumers have been trained to be a coupon culture, waiting for the best deal because they know it will come.

At the 36 th Annual Greater Indianapolis Garage Sale and Marketplace, shoppers can expect to find gently used clothing, furniture, items to fill a dorm room, books, collectibles, glassware, antiques, estate sale items, and much more.  Event organizers say it is impossible to catalog the thousands of items for sale.  Many items will even be available for under $1.00.
