More than half a century since its Broadway debut, Guys and Dolls brings to life the New York underworld of gamblers and gangsters. Based on the book by Joe Swerling and Abe Burrows, the musical tells the story of Nathan Detroit who runs an illegal floating crap game. To save the game, he makes a bet with Sky Masterson, a pathological gambler who must woo the saintly Sarah Brown or pay up. In the end, the guys must prove they will do anything for the dolls they love.
The musical numbers will dazzle on sets designed to make the audience feel like they are shooting craps in the New York underground or sipping on a Cuban milkshake at a Havana nightclub.
Guys and Dollsdebuts at the Tarkington on Friday, April 27 and will run through Saturday, May 12. Shows begin at 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 5 p.m. on the final Saturday of the run and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Single tickets are $32 for Thursday performances, $39 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances, and $20 for children 12 and younger. A signed performance will be on Saturday, May 6. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 317.843.3800 or by visiting Civic’s website at CivicTheatre.org.
