Blues-rock artist, Jeffrey James, will return to his alma mater April 27, 2012 to host the second songwriting contest at Brownsburg High School. Ten contestants will be chosen from local middle school and high school students to perform one song each as the opening acts for James’ unplugged band performance after the contest.

Songs will be judged on lyrics, melody and musical arrangement. The overall winner, who will be revealed on April 27, will receive cash prizes and merchandise.

Winner of the 2010 songwriting contest, Tyler Ewigleben, will be opening with his band Brother, Nature for James’ full band show at Birdy’s Bar and Grill in Indianapolis on April 28, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

James started the contest in collaboration with Brownsburg High School Choir Director, Melissa Stainbrook, to provide local students with a creative outlet. “Growing up, I was lucky enough to have a great choral program where I could express my musical interests,” James said. “However, when I started writing my own songs, I didn’t have many places where I could test them out and grow as a songwriter.”

Pre-sale tickets for the contest hosted at Brownsburg High School at 7:30 p.m. on April 27 can be purchased for $5.00 by emailing Mstainbrook@brownsburg.k12.in.us or
