Women of a Certain Age: On Fire

The “women of a certain age” are back at it. For the third year, a dozen female artists are presenting an exhibition that looks at the artists’ self-image. “Women of a Certain Age: On Fire!” will feature 2D and 3D work of metal, paint on canvas, woodcut prints on paper and encaustic.

In addition to the traditional cheese and wine, the opening reception on Oct. 5 will feature two female fire performers and elaborate décor, as well as several artists talking at 7 p.m. about their work and their life experiences.

This is a sequel to successful exhibits in October 2010 and October 2011.  Participating artists are:  Leigh Dunnington-Jones, Carol Myers, Jane Knight, JanettMarie, Julia Wickes, Julie Perigo, Terry McClatchie, Martha Lindenborg Vaught, and Vicky Shaffer White, and Susan Hazer

Exhibit coordinator Leigh Dunnington-Jones says, “This is an exciting exhibit made by mature women.  You will find the work both visually stimulating, and thought provoking, covering topics from politics to the family and from the changes that happen as we age to the joy of making art.”

Proceeds from the sale of a limited edition print by Bonnie Fillenwarth will benefit the Pink Ribbon Connection, a local organization that supports women with breast cancer.

The show will be up in Stutz Art Space gallery, which is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays in October or by appointment.
