Dr. Carol McKown of Carmel Pediatric Dentistry discusses tips and little know facts to keep children's teeth healthy. Dr. Carol McKown has had over 25 years of experience in the field of pediatric dentistry. Dr. Carol wants to get to know you and your child! And, of course you want to get to know her. She will review the medical and dental history with you and find out what your primary concerns are.

Every child should be seen by 9 months of age to do a caries risk assessment. This includes a diet history, feeding history, fluoride, and a dental history of the child and parents.

Dr. Carol will examine the child singing the ABC song of the teeth. She will want to determine if there is any active decay or any potential areas of decay. She will also want to evaluate the plaque level and oral hygiene. This can be done lap-to lap with the parent or having the parent sit in the dental chair with the child on his or her lap.
