Health benefits of spices

Dr. Roger Spahr presents tips for what spices you may use in the kitchen that would also have health benefits Cinnamon, Oregano, Rosemary, Turmeric, Tyme, ginger and roasted red peppers.

Cinnamon is great for use an alterative sweetener 1/2 to 1 teaspoon in your coffee grinds before brewing or stir into your honey to sweeten your tea. Cinnamon is also rich in natural compounds called polyphenols. Research suggests that these compounds may act like insulin in our body to help regulate blood sugar levels.

Turmeric, for example, is a bright yellow spice is commonly found in curry powder. Researchers are looking into the role of turmeric in brain health and protecting against cognitive decline associated with aging.
