Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin.
Insulin is a hormone that converts sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.  No cure. Silent disease. You can have it and not know it.

  • Diabetes is the seventh-deadliest disease in the U.S. and it continues to grow at near-epidemic rates.
  • Diabetes kills more people in the U.S. each year than AIDS and breast cancer combined.  Nearly 26 million Americans have diabetes.
  • 1 in 4 of them is not yet diagnosed.
  • At least 714,000 Hoosiers have diabetes (13.6%).
  • 1 in 4 of them is not yet diagnosed.
  •  About 1 in 10 Marion County residents has diabetes (57,000).
