Dehydration. Exhaustion. Bug Bites. Heat Rash. Sunburn.

These issues and more are all serious concerns that take away from our fun in sun. None of us want to give up a minute of the sunshine and summer breeze, but as much as we want to play all day we still need to take steps to keep healthy and protected.

Just because school’s out for summer doesn’t mean we’re off the hook for health and safety! So how do we keep protected from the bummers of summer?

Make new good habits!

  • More time in summer to readdress old habits and start new ones
  • Abundance of fruits and vegetables make adding in more produce easy and delicious
  • Drink more water for health and to help prevent dehydration
  • Schedule in some more family time, like walks and vacations

Sun safety

  • Protect yourself! More than 3.5 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed annually.
  • SPF and sunscreen is an obvious must, but know to look for “broad spectrum” on label
  • It is easy to miss spots with spray version blocks, so be conscious of easy-to-miss spots
  • Waterproof and resistant sunblocks still need to be reapplied often!
  • Check on elderly neighbors and family to make sure they are staying out of the harmful heat
