For children with special needs there are a number of camps available. Scott Fogo, Director of Autism Services with Easter Seals and Dr. Gwen Martin, Manager of Autism Services have details about camp programs that will appeal to your child.

CampR.O.C.K.S! June 10 – 15, June 24 – 29.
Specifically designed for young people with autism between the ages of 10-18, Camp R.O.C.K.S! features two outdoor camp sessions at Bradford Woods consisting of six days and five nights per session. Activities include science exploration, swimming, nature hikes, horseback riding and canoeing.
CampAbility – Day camp for children with special needs ages 4 to 11. Volunteers assist
professional staff to provide indoor and outdoor activities, including theme days, field trips and
guest visitors. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Background checks are done on each
volunteer.
CampAbility North
- Location: Easter Seals Crossroads - 4740 Kingsway Drive, Indianapolis
- Time: Mondays – Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Volunteer shifts are flexible
Three Sessions:
Session 1: June 25 – July 6 (no camp July 4)
Session 2: July 9 – July 19
Session 3: July 23 – July 26 (One week session)
CampAbility South
-Location: Center Grove Elementary School – 2455 South Morgantown Road, Greenwood
-Time: Mondays – Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Volunteer shifts are flexible.
Three Sessions:
Session 1: June 11 – June 21
Session 2: June 25 – June 28 and July 9 – July 12
(split week camp – does not include week of July 4)
Session 3: July 16 – July 26
Lose the Training Wheels – A bicycle camp for people with disabilities to learn
how to ride a conventional bicycle without training wheels using adaptive equipment.
- Location: Perry Park Ice Skating Rink – 451 E. Stop 11 Road, near Meridian Street intersection
- Date: July 9 – July 13, 2012
- Time: Volunteer shifts are 75 minutes long.
The session shifts are as follows:
Session 1: 8:30 – 9:45am
Session 2: 10:05 – 11:20am
Session 3: 11:40 – 12:55pm
Session 4: 2:00 – 3:15pm
Session 5: 3:35 – 4:50pm
- Responsibilities: Volunteers walk and run along with the child riding the bicycle serving as
motivation and encouraging the child.
Gadget Camp. June 18 – 22.
Gadget Camp is a day camp for young people aged 10-16 who use augmentative communication devices or other assistive technology.. The camp is offered in partnership with INDATA (Indiana Assistive Technology Act) and takes place on the campus of Butler University. Activities include fishing, photography, painting and singing.
