The Man who walked off 250 pounds

Papa Joe Aviance, The Man who walked off 250 pounds! In 2011-2012, Papa Joe Aviance lost 250 lbs. by walking five miles a day around Los Angeles and shopping for healthy food at the 99¢ Store.

Papa Joe’s journey began in 2011.  200 lbs. overweight, he couldn’t stand to look in the mirror and vowed to transform his life.  Unfortunately, he was unemployed and could not afford a gym membership or Whole Foods diet.  So Papa Joe laced up his shoes and began walking—five miles a day, every day.
This determined and charismatic personality has become something of a Los Angeles neighborhood celebrity on his morning walks.  He has been profiled on About.com and The Toronto Sun.

He is now a health and wellness advocate, working with obese children and adults in inner-city Los Angeles and motivating them to follow in his footsteps.  Papa Joe believes strongly that the individuals most affected by obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease are the ones that can least afford the often-costly remedies.

“Papa Joe is expanding his route outside LA, hosting a series of three-mile walks in cities across the country.  This “Live for Life Tour” will kick off in Daytona on April 4th and conclude in Chicago on May 18th. For more information visit http://liveforlifetour.com/ or Papa Joe’s website:   http://joejoenow.com/ .”
