The first festival was held in 1968, and included a flea market on the Courthouse lawn, grape stomping, and steintossen. Six years and thousands of people later, the festival was proclaimed “too big” and was discontinued. The festival was “reborn” in 1979 as the Swiss Alpine Festival. In 1997 the festival was moved to Paul Ogle Riverfront Park in Vevay, IN, to compensate for additional growth. It was renamed the Swiss Wine Festival.
