The book covers her years as a journalist here and for Mutual Broadcasting in Washington, DC, and discusses her fundraising for charities. It also tells the story of her childhood, as Georgia Gianakos, the daughter of Greek immigrants, living in “The District,” a section of town (their 24-step walk-up was at 428-1/2 W. Washington St.) that was home to many immigrants and their children.
Woven through her book is also her story of the joys and challenges of raising a special-needs son.
Although she’s now 85, she hasn’t slowed down. Years ago, she was a great interviewer. Today, she makes a great person to interview. I know she’d be an enthusiastic, fun person to have on Indy Style.
Georgia is having a book signing at Bookmamas in Irvington on Friday, June 8, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, with other signings to follow (we’re working on a couple yet to be set up).
