HVAF of Indiana, Inc., a non-profit United Way organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans, will host its 3rd Annual Freedom Ride at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011. (Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.)
Governor Mitch Daniels will launch the event at 9:30am, with the motorcycle ride beginning immediately after at 10 a.m. at the Harley Davidson of Indianapolis, 4146 E. 96th St. Riders will be police escorted through Downtown Indianapolis, and the ride will end at HVAF’s Warman Apartments, 240 N. Warman Ave., one of 17 properties maintained by HVAF that serve as homes for 200 veterans who had been homeless. At the Warman Apartments, HVAF staff, clients, volunteers and other supporters will celebrate a Summer Festival. The event is expected to raise more than 10-thousand dollars for programs and projects to help veterans and their families recover from homelessness.
Reaching out and bringing attention to the urgent needs of our area’s homeless veterans is an on-going effort,” says Charles Haenlein, CEO & President of HVAF. “We hope this year’s Freedom Ride helps our community recognize the need and make a positive contribution to our homeless veterans and their families,” adds Haenlein.
