Banned Book Week was started by the American Library Association. This is the thirtieth (30th) annual celebration of Banned Book Week. The purpose of Banned Book Week is to promote freedom of expression.
Banned Books are considered to be those that have actually been banned such as "To Kill A Mockingbird" and have been required to have modifications before publication such as "Fahrenheit 451."

Corey Dalton will be a captive writer protesting the banning of Slaughterhouse Five and other books. Corey will live in the KVML front window for the week surrounded by a wall of banned books. We will have a petition at our location and around the city for people to encourage the school board of Republic, MO to release Slaughterhouse

Five from its "secure" location in the school library so that all high school students have access to the book. I've attached our NUVO ad as well as a list of activities that will be going on that week. Note that Judy O'Bannon will be at the KVML for First Friday on October 5th. Please make an effort to attend that night and any other night you are available (it begins at 6 p.m.). Michael Moore is planning to Skype in on Tuesday the 2nd at 6 p.m.

Kathleen is the owner of Bookmamas, Inc., an independent bookstore in historic Irvington.  Bookmamas commemoration of Banned Books week will include the opportunity to sign the KVML petition.
Patrons will also be able to read briefly from a banned book on Saturday, October 6 from 12-3. These short readings will be recorded and uploaded onto You Tube in conjunction with ABFE, American Booksellers for Freedom of Information.
