Harsh arctic climate, global warming, cultural differences, poachers, herders, dangerous altitudes, timber exploiters, deforestation, human conflicts – none of these have discouraged the six finalists for the 2012 Indianapolis Prize from fighting to conserve the world’s most endangered species and environments. These heroes of conservation are on the front lines fighting for our most beloved species – such as polar bears, lemurs and snow leopards.
The Indianapolis Prize is the world’s leading award given to an individual conservationist who has made significant achievements across the globe in advancing the sustainability of an animal species or group of species. The award was created to honor them, their stories, and inspire others to join them on a lifelong quest to save what can never be replaced. Given every two years, the $100,000 award represents the largest individual monetary award for animal conservation in the world.
