The New Cultural Trail

Mayor Greg Ballard details the Indianapolis Cultural Trail which officially opens with weekend celebration May 10-11th.

After 12 years of planning and construction, the Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick will officially open as a completed project on Friday, May 10, 2013.  To celebrate this milestone, the public is invited to “Get Down On It” Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. 

The eight-mile uniquely paved, beautifully landscaped and lit Cultural Trail connects the city’s five downtown cultural districts and also connects to Broad Ripple, the sixth district, via the Monon Trail at 10th Street. 

During the opening weekend, there will be activities and special-event programming throughout the trail and within each cultural district to encourage everyone to move around the trail, from district to district, on foot, bike, stroller or wheelchair. 

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10 (specific location to be determined).  Stay tuned for more information and a schedule of events and activities throughout the day on Saturday, May 11. 

Request for Program Ideas:

The public is encouraged to submit program ideas.  If you have an idea for a program on Saturday, May 11, the Cultural Trail wants to know about it by February 28.  There will be an open public meeting for more information on February 12, 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Eiteljorg Museum, 500 W.
