Age of Champions

Age of Champions tells the story of five competitors who sprint, leap, and swim for gold at the National Senior Olympics. You’ll meet a 100-year-old tennis champion, 86-year-old pole vaulter, and rough-and-tumble basketball grandmothers as they discover the power of the human spirit and triumph over the limitations of age.

The film premiered at the prestigious Silverdocs Film Festival in Washington DC and was called “infectiously inspiring” by the Washington Post. This is the THIRD film made by 28-year-old filmmakers Keith Ochwat and Christopher Rufo that has aired on PBS.

A chance encounter at a nonprofit conference sparked the idea for Age of Champions. Filmmakers Christoper Rufo and Keith Ochwat were fundraising for another project when the chief organizer of the Senior Games informed them of what thousands of seniors have been able to push themselves to do and invited them to the games in Palo Alto. The two couldn't believe what they saw and were able to record, scraped together a few thousand dollars and six weeks later they were traveling around the country shooting scenes for Age of Champions.
