Courtney received a $1,000 check and the Gold Award from Barnum & Bailey when she was 11-years-old for her fundraising efforts and community service work she had done. She decided to use that $1,000 check to help “paw it forward” to help the animals of Hendricks County! So last year, at age 12, she came up with the idea to hold an event called the Bow Wow Bash, which is a fundraiser for the Hendricks County Humane Society. She used that $1000 to help fund the event.
The event was supposed to be just a small event the first year. We were hoping to get about 8 vendors and thought maybe 100 people might show up. However, because this was a fundraising event created by a 12-year old, the media picked up the story, and we had a ton of publicity! Ironically, because of all the publicity surrounding the event, it ended up being a pretty sizable event with 40 vendors and over 425 people attending the event! In the end, Courtney was able to raise $3,000 for the Humane Society!
Everyone had such an awesome time last year, that tons of people have requested she do the event again. So this year will be the 2nd Annual Bow Wow Bash!Courtney’s whole idea behind the event, was not only to help animals...but to inspire other children to pay it forward in their communities as well.
