Service dogs are trained extensively, to perform or complete a task for a human...like opening a door, turning on a light, crossing the street.
Just recently, there is a new program getting NATIONAL attention...and the Service Dog training center at the Indiana Women's Prison is at the center of this new program.
Some of the inmates, women, at the prison at training service dogs to detect low blood sugar in diabetic patients.
They dogs tell the person, nudge them, when they need to take meds or see a doctor or when there is reason for concern due to low blood sugar.
How do they do that...how are they trained? Patty visited the Indiana Women's Prison and has all the details about this groundbreaking, life saving program!
