Get Cooking: White Chili with Turkey and Italian Sausage

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ lbs turkey, fresh ground (smoked deli turkey is fine too)
  • 1 ½ lbs Italian sausage (remove from casing)
  • ¾ ea onion, diced
  • ½ cup celery, diced
  • 2 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)
  • 2 cups beans, cooked (your favorite is best)
  • ½ cup jalapeno, pickled (less if using fresh)
  • 2 tbs. chili powder
  • 1 tbs. cumin, ground
  • 2 tsp. coriander
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • ½ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 48 oz chicken broth (less if desired thicker chili)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup cilantro
  • To taste salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Heat heavy bottom sauce pot on medium high. Add oil and cook meats.
  2. Add onion, celery, and cook 5 minutes stirring occasionally.
  3. Add tomato, beans, jalapeno and spices. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the broth and simmer 30 minutes.
  5. Add the heated heavy cream and simmer another 10 minutes. Stir in cilantro and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Can be garnished with tortillas, cheese, cilantro, etc.
  7. If thicker chili is desired, whisk in a mixture of ¼ cup water and 1 ½ T cornstarch. (slurry) Add this at the end off cooking and simmer 5 minutes.
