MORGANTOWN, Ind. (WISH) - Firefighters found a homicide victim inside a trailer home
during a fire in northern Brown County.
The fire started at three in the morning on Whispering Pines
Road at Morgantown.
Firefighters say the a man was dead inside his home with a
gun shot wound.
His ex-wife was found outside alive.
"When I walked out the door I saw this big white light. I thought what in the world is going on. I look over here and my neighbors garage is on fire," said neighbor Dena Butler.
Inside the home located off a dead end road .... was 44 year old
Robert Andrews.
But police believe he died before the fire even started.
They say he was shot in the head.
His dog was also shot.
Firefighters found 40 year old Dottie Andrews behind the
house.
She had burn marks on her arms and she was suffering from
smoke inhalation. She was airlifted to an Indianapolis
hospital.
Police say the two were in the process of getting divorced.
Investigators are treating this as a homicide but no arrests
have been made.
They say no one else is involved.
The Morgantown Fire Chief says fire might have started from
construction material that had been piled in the corner.
Neighbors say the couple had been married for twenty years.
But Dottie hadn't been living at the house for months.
On the surface, they say, nothing seemed out of the
ordinary.
"Typical married couple fight every now and then. But other
than that I thought they got along fine," said Butler. "He was a
good neighbor. If you needed help, he was there to help you. If he
needed something we were always there to help him."
"I knew they were having problems. It's 2000 now ... who doesn't," said another neighbor Stephen Spurltk.
Now police are trying to find out why their problems escalated
into deadly violence.
No information will be released until Monday.
