INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A tragic crime in an upscale neighborhood ends with two men dead and neighbors shocked. It happened in the 10000 block of Courageous Drive near 79th Street and Fall Creek Road.
Police say around 3 a.m. Saturday morning two gunshots went off and police rushed to a Geist neighborhood.
“You wonder if someone in the neighborhood prowling or doing something, gives you a certain sense of uncomfort. I had my three granddaughters here last evening so we are certainly aware of, but my gosh no we've never had anything even remotely close to that happen, ever,” says neighbor Tony Hodge.
Two men were found dead — one inside and one outside a home — in what police believe to be a murder-suicide. It shocked neighbors.
“Then about 5 o'clock I heard someone really wailing and crying. I don't know if someone had come home at that point and found out what happened or what the deal was,” says Hodge.
Police say 50-year-old Derek Tully was found inside this home. A friend of his, 48-year-old John Caffrey was found outside. Police are reporting both dead from a single gunshot wound. Police believe the friends were in a dispute and Caffrey shot Tully then left the home and shot himself.
“Someone stole some mail, that's the worst I can think of,” says Bob Roache who has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years.
Now neighbors are concerned for a family trying to make some sense out of what seems like a senseless act.
“I feel sorry for the family. I hope I hope, my thoughts and prayers are with them and I don't know anything about what happened, but it is a shock, too bad,” says Roache.
Currently IMPD Investigators are still talking to witnesses and piecing together what caused this crime.
