INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - While the nation continues in a recession with more job losses reported every day there are some sectors that are putting out the help wanted sign.
Help wanted signs are few and far between lately, not exactly the sign of the times. In fact, more and more companies are cutting budgets and jobs. But McDonald's in the Circle City is hiring.
"Well if I had to work at McDonald's I would work at McDonald's if I had to scrub floors I would be the best floor scrubber I could be. As long as it's an honest living I don't mind at all," Barbara Parker of Indianapolis said.
Parker already has a job. It's Doris Rice who is looking.
"Yes, I am putting applications just about eveyrwhere. I have put an application at McDonald's," Rice said.
McDonald's isn't the only fast food chain hiring in Indianapolis.
"We are still growing our sales are growing and we are also building new stores so it gives us an opportunity to hire people," said Charlie Brown, a Taco Bell Franchisee.
Brown owns 71 restaurants in Indiana as a franchisee with Taco Bell.
Taco Bell restaurants the makes up 60 percent of, food and beverage holding company ,Yum Brand Incorporated's U.S. profits. They are a company that saw a recent surge in stocks after announcing plans for international expansion.
Brown says the economy is affecting his business, "It always has an affect on us and the main thing we are seeing is what we call a trade down in our demographic. So where the customer that may have been eating at a casual dining restaurant now is eating at Taco Bell maybe because of the value and that's what we are known for and that's what they are coming for."
Doris hopes she can benefit too, "It's a job and it pays, pays the bills."
Brown also says that he is finding applicants are more educated or experienced. and he says more experienced staff will benefit his company and his customers.
