INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - If you made $42,000 or less last year, there's still time to get
free help in filing your federal tax return.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the
Elderly sites in Indianapolis will help prepare your return and
file it electronically.
Various community organizations are sponsoring tax preparation
sites where Hoosiers can get free tax assistance and no charge as
part of the VITA and TCE programs. Community volunteers will help
people free the tax credits and deductions that they are eligible
for.
The income tax filing deadline is April 15th.
The following locations will hold the free tax filing sessions
this week:
- Shepherd Community Center (4107 East Washington Street)
April 13th @ 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
- Southeast Community Center (901 Shelby Street - 2nd
Floor) April 13th @ 4 - 7 p.m.
- IABC Super Site (2236 East 10th Street) April 13-15th @
10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Hawthorne Community Center (2440 West Ohio Street)
April 13th-15th @ 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Oasis Christian Development Corp (1701 East 25th
Street) April 14th @ 2 - 6:30 p.m.
- Christamore House (502 NorthTremont Street) April 14th
@ 3 - 7 p.m.
People who want their tax returns prepared should bring the
following information:
- Valid driver's license or photo identification (self
and spouse if applicable)
- Social Security Cards for all persons listed on the
return
- Dates of birth for all persons listed on the
return
- All income statements: Forms W-2, 1009, Social
Security, Unemployment, or other benefits statements,
self-employment record and any documents showing taxes
withheld
- Dependent child care information: payee's name, address
and Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number
- Proof of account at financial institution for direct
debit or deposit (i.e. cancelled/voided check or bank
statement)
- Prior year tax return (if available)
- Any other pertinent documents or papers
