INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Department of Child Services removed three children from a southwest side home and cited two women after an officer found the family living in squalor.

A metro police officer was called to the home in the 1400 block of Phillips Drive at around 2:30 Monday afternoon. Someone reported to police that the house was unsanitary and an 18-month-old child was living there.

According to the police report, the officer first smelled a very strong odor of animal waste at the home. The officer then reported finding dog feces on the floor and the one-year-old child sitting on a dirty, stained blanket with food on the floor.

The officer also reported seeing cockroaches all over the kitchen and surrounding areas.

DCS workers removed the one-year-old child as well as two boys, ages 14 and 16.

The workers cited a 53-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman at the home and assigned them a court date.
