INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A Colts player spent Saturday night in jail. Police say Darrell
Reid faces charges for disorderly conduct and trespassing.
Metro Police released the 26-year-old after police say caused a
problem in the parking lot of a lounge on the northeast side.
Police say Reid was trying to go inside the new Oxygen Lounge on
East 82nd street but it was in the middle of closing for the
night.
"The owners of the club approached the officers and stated that
they needed some help in reducing the number of people in the
parking lot and the club itself. Apparently they were nearing
capacity for fire code," IMPD Sgt. Paul Thompson said.
"We want to promote good customer service and during events you
have to provide security. That's what we were doing making sure we
could control the crowd," Oxygen Lounge owner Ivan Duncan said.
Police say Reid told the officer that he wanted to get inside
the lounge. The officer told him to come back in an hour.
According to the police report, Reid said "I don't have to
because I am a football player with the Indianapolis Colts."
The police officer stated that "I didn't care who he was, I am a
police officer and now I am now asking him for the last time to
please leave the property."
"According to the officer Mr. Reid raised his voice, was loud
and boisterous, refused to quiet down and also refused to leave the
property. At that point in time, the officer did place him under
arrest for disorderly conduct and for criminal trespass for not
leaving the property after being told to do so," Sgt. Thompson
said.
Later, after officers arrested Reid, police sid his friends
tried to convince officers to let him go, because his arrest would
give the Colts a bad image.
A spokesperson for the Colts told 24-Hour News 8 that the
organization is aware of the situation and did not have a comment
at this time.
Police arrested Reid in 2007 for a marijuana possession charge
in New Jersey.
