INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It's a question that television stations across the nation have
been asking: Are you ready for DTV? Now, the FCC is trying to get
Hoosiers on board before the deadline.
Thursday, the Concord Community Center hosted a town hall
meeting about digital TV. The FCC is concerned that there are about
30,000 Marion County residents who may not get the message in time.
The deadline for DTV is February 17. Viewers who don't have cable
or satellite TV are signing up to buy and install boxes that
convert the signal.
"For some people, they just assume that the technology is going
to embrace them and they won't have to take any action. And for
those people, sometimes it's a rude awakening," said Louis Sigalos
of the FCC.
For those at the Concord Community Center meeting, the
information was just what they needed.
"Actually, I had forgot about it until I saw it on TV and then I
said let me go down here and see what they're talking about and how
it works," said Dianne Ellis.
The FCC also gave folks information about getting coupons for
converter boxes.
Many of the freed up signals will be used by public safety and
wireless services.
