INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita said he's working with federal authorities to determine who is responsible for letters that cite a fictitious state law and ask businesses for a $125 fee.
Rokita said the letters look like they come from an official government source but were not sent by his office's Business Services Division. The return address on some of the letters goes to a box in a Mailboxes, Etc. store near the Statehouse.
The letters ask businesses for a $125 fee for processing a company's annual minutes. The letters include a disclaimer that specifies the offer is not being made by the government. Still, Rokita worries that businesses may be confused by the form and is urging them to ignore the letters.
