INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro Police are investigating a deadly road rage incident. It
began after two o'clock Saturday morning at 38th and Keystone.
Police say Kathy Slater was driving away from a restaurant
with friends 44-year old Angela Lamb and 19-year old Clifton Benson
when she cut off another motorist driving a Nissan.
"They get side by side; words are exchanged between the two
as they drive. The passengers they continue on south on Keystone.
(They) got up to about, according to witnesses, between 50-60 miles
per hour," IMPD Lt. Jeff Duhamell said.
Police say that's when the confrontation escalated.
The driver in the Nissan swerved into Slater's path. She lost
control and plowed into a tree. Paramedics pronounced her dead at
the scene.
Police say Angela Lamb sustained major internal injuries and
Clifton Benson apparently punctured a lung. Both are being treated
at Methodist Hospital.
Now, police are searching for the driver of the Nissan.
"We don't have a plate number just that it's a white Nissan
and it had dark tinted windows and they believe it was a hispanic
male wearing a dark skull cap. That's all we have," Lt. Duhamell
said.
Officers say that Slater's car did not come in contact with
the white Nissan. They hope someone will come forward with
additional information and help them find the other driver.
Authorities say at one point during the incident, the
passengers in the Slater vehicle asked her to slow down.
Slater leaves behind 5 children ages 3-18.
Anyone with information urged to contact Crime Stoppers at
262-TIPS.
